So where was I? I remember, pie talk. After Martha spoke to some audience members about their pies, chef Sandro Micheli (also one of the judges) made a beautiful chestnut pie with rum cream, that made the whole set smell great.

A week ago I was in the audience and took a (required) pie to the “First Annual Martha Stewart Pie Contest”. It was a very interesting experience, saw my first television “live” taping, Martha Stewart in the flesh, clapped and “hmmmmm-ed” on command, met and had a blast with the awesome Susan from DoughMesstic , her Sister and Gail (who owns One Tough Cookie) and did not win the contest (not that I really thought I had a shot…).

Today is Mad Men’s Third Season finale and what better way to bid a sad “See you next year” farewell to one of my favorite shows, than (of course!) making a cupcake version of Mr. Draper’s drink of choice.

A week later, I know, my first batch didn’t come out so well. Even though the recipe’s directions are very clear, my brain is not (!) and the first time around I boiled the gelatin along the corn syrup and sugar mixture. First batch was very very flat, no matter how long I whipped it.
Second time around: Success!

I’ve been a fan of Brownie Points ever since reading the post on Homemade Magic Shell (check it out!) and bookmarked the Basic Marshmallow recipe probably a year ago. However, I had ingredient issues, the grocery stores around my old apartment never ever had gelatin. Seriously!
When we moved to this apartment the tiny C-Town, two blocks away, turned out to have an awesome Baking aisle! Finally, stocked with gelatin, I made Marshmallows today! They are simple to make but a sticky affair, mind you.
They also take 10-12 hours to set so the end product post will in a few. For now, I will leave you with a shot of Betty (my Kitchenaid) whipping that Marshmallow into fluffiness.
