While visiting Québec City this past weekend in a very rainy and cold day, my friends and I stumbled upon Cafe Rabelais atop the Escalier «casse-cou» translation Neck Breaking Stairs while making our way to the Lower Town.

Our cold wet sneakers chilling our feet, our rumbling stomachs …um … rumbling and the presentation of a very good priced Table d’hôte (Québécois for Prixe Fixe) by a very cute amicable host made Chez Rabelais an easy choice to make. Did I mention the 2 for 1 special? No? Yea it was that good a deal, check out Québec City and this great spot on the off season if you can.

The meal included an appetizer, my first time eating Escargot (not bad at all), a very good creamy vegetable soup, spiced by largest pepper mill all of us had ever seen, my main course was Duck Confit (another first time and to die for!) and of course the object of this post yummy desserts!

I chose was a triple chocolate cake you saw above! It consisted of a rich Mousse with a cake middle layer and a magical wafer like crust underneath it all that was just insane!

My better half had the Crème brûlée and it was pretty special too, delightfully fresh and cool Vanilla Custard just barely sweet.

Three hours of warmth and decadent eating later we’re all ready for more Quebec City charm.

Au revoir, peeps.
